I wrote this bomb ass paper today and now that I’m thinking about it I’m actually mad

How am I the only one co-relating The Civil War with the transformation of slavery to the prison system? Our online professor, is a self-professeed , “Brit” who is currently in the process of writing a book.

It’s crazy how teachers can teach about the history of monopoly’s in a condescending manner while profiteering from books they demand students purchase. Anyways I wonder if he’s going to discuss how a latent dysfunction of America’s privileged status, is a feeling of entitlement or selfishness. He continually asks us how we can compare current times to what was happening then. I have yet to see anyone address racial issues, immigration issues, disproportional worldwide wealth, etc. People spend so much money on their education, they don’t want to take risks and discuss real ass shit. They only want to write what they think the professor wants to hear. He will probably talk about how in summer 2017 how the percentage of people who associated imprisonment with voter oppression (year one of dumb fuck presidency) Summer 2018 increased gun violence, suicide rates, altered sense of nationalism leading to fucked up immigration policies, heightened police violence, racial profiling, etc - what was the percentage of students who attributed these events to globalization?? 2019 more fucked up shit that omg I forgot about that pipeline shit I fucking I can’t believe all the dumb shit I’ve seen over the past couple years. As if I haven’t seen enough dumb shit I was on Facebook and I guess they’re doing a The Hills re-vamp so I started watching a clip and Audrina and Heidi are in a spa and Audrina’s crying about her divorce, court, and custody with her little girl and I was like how can these bitches be in a spa and be sitting here all crying about having to share custody with someone when there’s families straight up being torn apart. You’re crying about a divorce? Having to share custody with someone? Fidelity is western ideology sometimes we just outgrow people but we grow from it. People should be using their platforms to raise awareness. Children sick and dying without their families or loved ones by their side. What’s happening is disgusting and it feels like so many people are in a state of complacency.

I can’t read other people’s papers so I can’t say that they’re not relating it to our current state of affairs but in terms of our discussions, I was the only one who referred to the 13th amendment as “cloaking” slavery in the form of the prison system.

What Led to the Age of Revolution?

The Civil War was a pivotal global event fought by individuals defending their perspective of nationality. The nineteenth century was not only a time of great civil unrest - it was also a time when technology was steadily advancing. Thrusting the world into what some historians refer to as the first period of globalization. Today, our technology advances so quickly, often times it’s easy for us to forget the impact they trickle throughout society. It can also be hard to identify the manifest and latent functions without the passage of time. We can now draw a better understanding as to how globalization influenced: the events leading up to the Civil War, the ideologies shared around the globe in this time period, and how it shaped the future and altered our lives today.

Through the advancement of technology the nineteenth century was able to see an acceleration of global networking, communication, transportation, and economic relations - known as globalization. My generation has experienced a multitude of tech advances that continue to out-perform its predecessors - home to cell phone, dial-up to wi-fi, computer to laptop, cell phone to handheld computer, etc. It all happens so rapidly, we don’t realize it until we stop to think about it. As an advanced society, we’re always looking to be able to utilize the next best thing. Just as the cell phones and the internet changed global communications to unbelievable speeds never before seen in history, so too did it’s earliest form - the telegraph. What started off as a regional benefit, soon turned global with the use of undersea cables. Today we’re able to inform ourselves almost instantaneously about the world around us through the internet and technology. When we learn of an event which sparks great emotional sentiment, we share it with others. We discuss the significance, what it means for the people it’s directly impacting; what it means about the way they feel. The emotions we resonate with can be a reflection of who we support - based on how we feel impacted by it.  People of the era of the Civil War were no different in their drive to share global information, given it’s newfound speed and ease. While communication was increasing, so too were forms of transportation. Steam engines were developed for faster travel, less reliance on fuel, and greater volumes of transported goods. Faster boats meant for faster routes - new canals that cut the length of a trip by hundreds of miles! These advances saw the arrival of immigrants coming in search of opportunity. Many were able to find employment constructing the transcontinental railroad. The Industrial Revolutions gave way to a global competition in the development of technological advances. This is a competition that continues to this day. The Nineteenth century goal was to have the fastest technology to create global demand, and meet said demand. Globalization continues to evolve and it’s manifest function changes depending on global power shifts. Nonetheless, a consistent element of globalization’s latent functions/dysfunctions can be seen in the ways we consume, communicate, travel/immigrate, and spread ideologies.

During the nineteenth century news was spreading so quickly you were able to hear word on the latest European revolutionary fight to end aristocracy and despotism. These revolts evoked a spirit of freedom and liberation from the supporters of republican government. These uprisings also gave this era it’s title as “the age of revolution” Americans were ready to support these demonstrations pushing to end the “ancient regime” Monumental revolts that directly influenced America’s drive for republican government include: the independence of Latin America ,Greece’s highly publicized fight for freedom from the Ottoman empire, and varied revolts in France and Poland These movements were in large part inspired by the American Revolution. This allowed Americans to see themselves as a global influence. Forcing them to come to establish the ways they were going to utilize that influence for the better. The subjective matter of what exactly is “better” can be understood by evaluating the Northern, Southern, and global perspective of The Civil War. What it meant for Americans, the world, and the future.

The North saw The Civil War as a way to break down the southern aristocracy while becoming a global example of the shared national success of a republican government. Northern Americans saw that with drastic disproportionate power comes people who are constantly at a disadvantage. The power in the southern states was primarily in the hands of wealthy plantation owners who had no plans of giving up what they saw as their property. They too felt inspired by the European revolts, but to secede; not come together as a republican government. They felt the North, and the world alike, were benefiting from the steady supply of cotton the slave labor provided, to the point of dependency. They felt secure in their ability to break away and become their own nation state. This war was fought with the world watching. Anxious nations wondering alongside Americans, how this would impact them economically, culturally, and as a society. Many saw it as a test, to see if shared power among the people was possible.

Luckily the North was able to defeat the South and give way to the era of the reconstruction of a nation that had just been torn in half. The Civil War was the preamble to the reshaping of a nation. It was during reconstruction when America developed a centralized currency, expanded their production and industrialization, and came together to set an example for the world. That’s not to say that we became a perfect nation over night. We are still researching the latent functions/dysfunctions of The Civil War. These functions vary from: technology we’ve developed over time (to reduce labor and increase work productivity), as well as the worldwide networking created through globalization and technology. The technology we’ve utilized to dominate as global leaders of mass destruction and pollution. The systemic racism that followed, and still plagues our society. The ideology that through violence or war we achieve end goals. The list continues to grow as research does. Historical review can shed light on how technology impacts the way that a civilization reacts in regards to individual benefit. How Globalization is utilized depends on the powers that be. It’s influence is both Macro and Micro on a global scale. This is why The Civil War plays such a key role in American history as it highlights the fight for human rights against the wealthy elite, at a time when it could have easily succumb to it. The war also demonstrates how we can use globalization to make a positive impact around the world, for future generations to come if it is utilized as such. We can use this research to see the ways globalization is being used in today’s society.

It seems that neo-confederates have infiltrated our democracy. Using technology they’ve turned our society into docile new slaves of a capitalistic nature. Using the lack of political involvement of the youth to their advantage the wealthy have lobbied their way into power using monetary influence. Through capitalism, culture, and the new chattel system known as the prison system; they've imprisoned us to powerlessness by fear and hatred. These same powers realize that they can no longer impact us through religious basis, and our societies are much more advanced scientifically that claims of biological superiority are quickly debunked. Because of this they’ve used the impact of culture fueled by the power of globalization and technological advances to insinuate the idea that American culture is far superior than any other. Our current state of democracy is a global joke. America is currently loathsome to the civilized world. Donald Trump being elected as our president, in a global perspective, exemplifies the culture saturated lazy idiotic caricature Americans are perceived to be. Our culture is monopolized by puppeteers who fuel our media with ideals of money, fame, success, and glamour to continue to line their pockets and bend us to their will. The wealthy 1% built from a tactic the confederates developed when they attempted to take the reins of globalization to obtain their desired goals.

We the people have to take the reins of globalization from the wealthy to reverse the negative toll it’s taken on the world. If we continue to kill our planet, and one another - there won’t be a future. The Civil War serves as an example of how people can come together to make a difference and steer society into a better future by way of globalization.
