I was going to bring Moby Dick since that’s the book that I’m the deepest into but I thought of all the other shit I had to carry and decided to just bring ‘Selected Prose of Robert Frost’ and ‘The Pearl’ by John Steinbeck which I think I accidentally forgot on one of my flights. I was going to bring one of my journals so I could have a daily traveling diary but I decided to use one of the books I brought instead. Since I lost The Pearl, I ended up doing it in Selected Prose…
It goes as follows:
Day One(11/27/19):
Forgot my phone in the car while Dad was dropping me off. We had pizza/coffee on the way. It’s really scary to be in another country w/o a way of letting people back home know you’re safe. I was saddened/slightly relieved b/c to learn that food was not included. Relieved b/c what happens if I don’t like the food? This place is really nice; so are the people. I hope I learn quickly so I can ride to the beach. W/o a charger I won’t have photos of this trip until I develop my film. It seems strange to not be able to communicate w/your family/friends. I dreamed about them last night.
Things I didn’t write about:
I emailed the lady who I had arranged my plans with that I wouldn’t have a way to communicate out there. The plane ride sucked. It was long. The people around me were annoying. There was an old white couple in the row in front of me. They were assholes. They thought they were all cool speaking French, taking over the whole aisle as if there weren’t people trying to get around them. The lady in the row next to me kept sleeping the whole time. I felt awkward going over her to use the restroom since her legs were all stretched out. I had the window seat. Which seemed cool at first. I told them I get anxiety if I’m not sitting next to the window. Lol. They gave me the window seat then I had to piss like a race horse and this bitch was tooooooo relaxed I was like fuck. Anyways Michel and I ended up finding each other because he also seemed like he was looking for someone then I saw him with the sign it’s funny though how we found each other. He even said Anna had mentioned how was it that we were able to find each other in a sea of people. When we were in the car the kids were sick and they kept coughing. I feel so mean cause I have this habit of like when someone coughs or sneezes I like hold my breath like omg I don’t want breathe in these germs. It was kind of like that the whole trip though. It was gross too cause one morning like don’t get me wrong they were both cute kids but I just get grossed out when people who are sick are drinking from the carton because then it makes me question what I drank. We only shared breakfast and a few dinners together. I thought the $895 included lessons/food/boarding but it was just lessons and boarding. They wanted to charge me 25 euros a night for food. I was like well to be honest I have to save money for Paris too I thought it came wt it but if that’s the case I’ll just get my own food and cook for myself. The vegetables in France suck. We are spoiled in CA. I bought stuff for Calabazitas, oranges, and bananas, thought I bought shampoo but it was actually conditioner. Had no hot water the first night. That sucked. It was also stinky in the van, and honestly the sheets and blankets in the room were too. After awhile the smell went away and I didn’t notice it. But the first day/night I couldn’t even sleep because the smell was too much for me. There was no salt the first night I tried to cook myself dinner. There was only soy sauce. That shit sucked ass I was like fuck man I’m hella hungry these veggies suck, this dinner sucks, and I have to sit here looking at everyone’s Thanksgiving posts. I felt like I was spending too much time on my phone. I was all scared the first night. I had no idea if I was going to be sex trafficked or not. I had no way to contact my family. They didn’t sell chargers at the grocery store I thought that shit was so weird. I had asked if I could borrow a charger. Not even thinking about having to get an adapter for European outlets. Anyways I felt scared, and stinky. We stopped at a sports place and I got some rainproof shit since it had been raining nonstop. The room was really warm. The heating system over there comes up through the floor. It was cool. They also have towel warmers that was hella tight. I wish I had one of those. It lengthens the life of your towels. I was also able to handwash a few items and dry them on there overnight. I want one for home.
